The life of a SARCAN IT Strategist:

The IT Strategist will elevate technological innovation and strategies that support all SARC divisions and their functions. The IT Strategist will identify resources for bringing this vision and these plans to fruition. Responsible for policy development and analysis, professional development, research and program evaluation, and materials development as they relate to IT. Leads a team who values delivering an end user customer experience that is second to none.

Essential job functions include the following:
  • Envision and lead the development and implementation of the strategic direction for information technology services, gauging and anticipating the diverse needs of the  organization, monitoring trends and innovations in the IT industry to meet those needs; develop and implement strategic long and short-term technology plans; and make actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and supervision to direct report(s).
  • Outline and work with organizational leaders to implement a strategic plan that blends technology into service delivery.
  • Identify effective and innovative approaches to technology-based issues and obstacles
  • Act as a chief “champion” for new strategies, expanding staff capacity in the adoption of high-impact changes that achieve results.
  • Identify gaps in efficiencies; streamline technology-based solutions
  • Increase capacity by working with staff on technology-related projects, hardware upgrades and training.
  • Keep on top of IT trends, and inform Senior Management Team on opportunities, strategic partnerships, etc.
  • Manage internal IT support
  • Ensure IT data security, risk management, disaster recovery and business continuity planning processes are in place and receive regular review to confirm accepted current standards are met. Ensure the IT systems and operations remain compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Report regularly on progress and outcomes; forecast approaches to meet emerging needs.
  • Participate in annual budget process for organizational technology needs, develop annual IT operational and capital budgets, develop and maintain the IT plan.
  • Participate in operational planning teams/committees.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships and manage contract and service agreements.
  • Attend online and in-person training and workshops as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What are the skills you must have to perform this role?

To be successful as an IT Strategist at SARCAN, you will need:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field and minimum eight years of management experience leading a team; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Extensive experience with IT strategic planning, budgeting, and personnel management; significant experience in development and implementation, including but not limited to enterprise resource planning, systems architecture, telecommunications, database administration, cloud infrastructure, security and compliance issues.
  • Broad technical knowledge and skills, with demonstrated understanding of current computing, telecommunications and emerging technologies.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to customer service, and excellent presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in negotiating with vendors, contractors, and others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Enjoyment of challenges and a fast-paced environment, and a record of self-motivation and personal initiative.
  • Must provide a satisfactory criminal record check as a condition of employment.
